Asian Tiger Mosquito Dress-Up Guide
Get ready to zzzz-oom through the air as one of the most distinctive and recognizable insects in urban entomology: the famous Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus)! Known around the globe for its striking jet-black body accented by brilliant silver-white markings, this insect looks like a tiny aerial acrobat dressed in a high-tech zebra suit.
Sorry guys, only the females bite so you may be left out. But you can always forego the bloody dress and dress up in black and white stripes.
Pull the black-and-white striped tights over your legs or arms to create the banded legs. Add black and white striped arm bands over your solid black hoodie. You can add a white stripe of tape down the center of your hood to show the stripe on the mosquito.
Show everyone you mean business. Don’t forget to add this black and red tulle skirt to show your friends you’ve taken a blood meal.
Now it’s time for the wings that beat hundreds of times per second to create their signature buzz.
Let’s not forget accessorizing your head. Pop on your headband with straight thin antenna and buggy compound eyes. Hold a black straw accessory as your feeding proboscis that you will use to suck blood, and you're ready to fly!
Lastly your eggs are your super power! Carry around some black mini footballs to simulate the eggs.

The tiger mosquito earns its fierce name from the bold, white bands wrapped around its black legs and body.
International Traveler
This mosquito conquered the globe by hitching rides in shipments of used cargo tires and international trade goods like "lucky bamboo".
Magical Eggs
Its secret weapon is its "cigar-shaped" eggs. They are so incredibly tough they can survive total drought for months, waiting to hatch the moment they touch water again.
They don't lay eggs in swamps or marshes. Instead, they seek out tiny pockets of stagnant water near human homes, such as flower pots, bird baths, blocked gutters, or even a discarded soda can.
Daylight Assassin
Unlike most mosquitoes that hunt at night or dusk, the Asian tiger mosquito is a daylight assassin, peaking in activity during sunny or overcast afternoons.
Radar Antenna
Male mosquitoes feature super-fluffy, feather-like antennae called plumose antennae that work like sound radars to hear female wing beats! Females use their fuzzy antenna to track down smells we release as we sweat.

Mosquitoes eat flower nectar for daily flight energy! Both males and females sip sweet plant juices and fruit sugar to power their wings. It’s only the female that uses her needle-like mouth to pierce our skin and suck our blood.

In nature, male and female mosquitoes spend their afternoons searching garden beds for sweet flower nectar and fruit juice to give them flying energy!
How to Play:
Flower Garden Setup: Scatter colorful pillows or beanbags across the lawn or living room as "Sweet Nectar Flowers."
The Gentle Breeze: A parent or leader acts as the "Breeze." When the Breeze blows, all mosquitoes must buzz their wings high in the air while making a fast "ZZZZZZ-ZZZZZZ!" sound.
SIP THE NECTAR! When the leader shouts "FLOWER TIME!", mosquitoes zoom over to a flower pillow, touch their straw beak to the flower, and sip nectar for 3 seconds!
The mosquito who gets the most flowers wins.
Find The Next Victim Games
Female mosquitoes don't have literal radar dishes, but they have super-senses that act like one! They find their blood meals by tracking carbon dioxide (the air we breathe out), body heat, and movement. This game is a thematic twist on Marco Polo and Blind Man's Bluff.
Materials Needed
1 Blindfold (A sleep mask or bandana)
"Blood Meal" Tokens (Red stickers, red poker chips, or small red balls)
1 Hula Hoop (Optional, used as a "Bug Spray Safe Zone")
1. Set the Stage: Choose one player to be the Female Mosquito. They put on the blindfold. This takes away their sight, forcing them to rely on their "Mosquito Radar" (their hearing!). The rest of the players are the Campers. Hand each Camper one "Blood Meal" token.
2. Scatter! The Mosquito counts to 10 out loud while spinning in a circle. The Campers must quietly tiptoe away and freeze in place around the play area.
3. Activate the Radar! The blindfolded Mosquito starts searching for a blood meal. Because real mosquitoes track the carbon dioxide humans breathe out, the radar works through breath!
The Mosquito flaps her arms like wings and yells: "BZZZZZZ!"
In response, every Camper must immediately take a deep breath and loudly exhale: "HUFF! PUFF!"
4. The Chase: The Mosquito listens for the heavy breathing and tries to safely walk toward the sounds.
Campers are allowed to move to avoid the Mosquito, but if the Mosquito yells "BZZZZZZ!", they must stop, freeze, and yell "HUFF! PUFF!" before they can move again.
5. The "Bug Spray" Safe Zone (Optional): Place a hula hoop on the ground. This is the Bug repellent zone! If a Camper has one foot in the hula hoop when the Mosquito buzzes, they are "invisible" to the radar and do not have to say "Huff! Puff!". However, a Camper can only stay in the safe zone for 3 turns before the bug spray "wears off" and they have to run back into the yard!
6. Getting a Blood Meal: If the Mosquito successfully tags a Camper, the Mosquito yells, "ZAP!" The tagged Camper must hand over their red "Blood Meal" token. The tagged Camper then becomes the new Female Mosquito, puts on the blindfold, and the game starts over!
